Donald Trump is already working at improving the United States. But this country isn’t happy about the way he wants to conduct those improvements.

And Trump makes a stunning proposal that has this foreign nation panicking beyond belief.

President-elect Donald Trump reignited his provocative rhetoric toward Canada on Monday, taking to Truth Social to reiterate his vision of America’s northern neighbor joining the United States as its 51st state. The comments came after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his resignation following over nine years in power.

“Many people in Canada LOVE being the 51st State. The United States can no longer suffer the massive Trade Deficits and Subsidies that Canada needs to stay afloat. Justin Trudeau knew this, and resigned,” Trump, 78, posted.

He added: “If Canada merged with the U.S. [sic], there would be no Tariffs, taxes would go way down, and they would be TOTALLY SECURE from the threat of the Russian and Chinese Ships that are constantly surrounding them. Together, what a great Nation it would be!!!”

Trudeau’s resignation, citing internal divisions within his ruling Liberal Party, marked the end of his nearly decade-long tenure. “It has become obvious to me, with the internal battles, that I cannot be the one to carry the Liberal standard into the next election,” the Canadian prime minister said.

In recent weeks, Trudeau had faced mounting pressure to step down, with polls signaling that the opposition Conservatives were strongly positioned to win the next election, expected later this year.

Tensions between Trudeau and Trump are not new. During Trump’s first term in the White House, the two leaders clashed repeatedly, especially over tariffs on Canadian goods.

Since Trump’s re-election on November 5, the president-elect has continued to jab at Trudeau, often in a playful yet pointed manner.

According to Fox News, Trump reportedly told Trudeau during a Mar-a-Lago dinner that Canada would make a fine addition to the Union if it didn’t accept a proposed 25% tariff on its exports.

Trudeau reportedly laughed “nervously” at the suggestion, with Trump floating the idea that the Canadian leader could stay in power as a state governor.

Trump’s quips didn’t stop there. He later posted AI-generated images of himself on a mountaintop holding a Canadian flag and repeatedly referred to Trudeau as “governor” and Canada as “a state.”

Last month, when Canada’s Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland resigned under Trudeau’s leadership, Trump wrote on Truth Social, “The Great State of Canada is stunned as the Finance Minister resigns, or was fired, from her position by Governor Justin Trudeau.”

Although the president-elect’s comments have drawn laughter from his supporters, insiders of Trump’s suggest to the New York Post that his remarks about Canada joining the U.S. are more about needling his “frenemy” in Ottawa than outlining serious policy.

However, these insiders have also claimed Trump’s other territorial ambitions — including acquiring Greenland and reclaiming the Panama Canal Zone — are “100% serious.”

As Trump prepares to step into the White House for a second term, his vision of expanding America’s borders continues to blur the lines between political theater and genuine aspiration, leaving Canadians and Americans alike wondering how far he’s willing to take his bold ideas.

If anything, Donald Trump is proving to the American people that he won’t back down without a fight and is willing to put the nation’s interests first above anyone else.
