The tide may be changing. The press isn’t as quick to give the Left the special treatment they feel entitled to.
And this Leftist media outlet just turned their back on a top Democrat in a surprising move.
During a recent interview, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., was confronted with a resurfaced clip where he labeled President Joe Biden as the best candidate to face off against Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential race.
The clip, taken from Jeffries’ appearance on The View in February 2024, raised questions about whether Democrats were transparent about Biden’s abilities during his campaign for re-election.
NBC’s Kristen Welker pressed Jeffries on this issue, asking, “What do you say to Americans who believe you and other top Democrats misled them?”
Jeffries stood by his past endorsement, stating, “Well, Joe Biden was the incumbent president at the time. He was the candidate at the time, and I supported him at the time, and that was the right thing to do, based on the incumbent president making the decision that he was going to run.”
He also emphasized the importance of looking ahead rather than revisiting past decisions, noting his focus was now on working for Americans following Trump’s victory in the election.
Welker did not stop there. She pushed further, asking Jeffries if he felt obligated to be more honest about what he observed of Biden’s performance behind closed doors.
Jeffries defended the president’s efforts, saying, “What I saw behind closed doors was a president who was working hard to get things done to deliver for the American people on infrastructure, on driving down the high price of life saving prescription drugs, on bringing domestic manufacturing jobs back home to the United States of America.”
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., also faced tough questioning from Welker. She presented him with a clip from earlier in 2024 in which Schumer dismissed concerns about Biden’s mental fitness as “right-wing propaganda.”
In the clip, Schumer asserted, “His mental acuity is great. It’s fine. It’s as good as it’s been over the years. All this right-wing propaganda that his mental acuity has declined is wrong.”
When asked what he would say to Americans who now feel misled, Schumer said, “We didn’t. Let’s look at President Biden. He’s had an amazing record. The legislation we passed, one of the most significant groups of legislation since Lyndon Johnson’s great society, putting in 235 judges, a record, and he’s a patriot.”
Welker pressed Schumer about whether he was confident Biden could have effectively served a second term. Schumer avoided speculation but praised Biden’s legacy, stating, “As I said, I think his record is a stellar one, and he’ll go down in history as a really outstanding president.”
The Question of Cognitive Decline: A Missed Discussion
As the Democratic Party reflects on its decisions leading up to the election, questions about Biden’s cognitive abilities remain unresolved for many Americans.
Critics argue that top Democrats failed to address the issue candidly, instead choosing to dismiss legitimate concerns as partisan attacks. Biden’s frequent verbal missteps often fueled doubts about his capacity to handle the presidency for another term.
Democratic leaders largely avoided a transparent conversation about Biden’s age and health. This strategy may have allowed the party to maintain unity during the campaign, but it left lingering doubts among voters who felt their concerns were ignored.
The reluctance to address Biden’s cognitive decline head-on may also reflect broader challenges within the Democratic Party. Balancing loyalty to an incumbent president with the need for honest discourse is a delicate act — one that, in this case, appears to have backfired. The omission of an open discussion about Biden’s mental fitness has fueled skepticism and calls into question the party’s accountability to the American people.
Now that Trump has returned to the White House, the Democratic Party faces tough questions about its leadership, transparency, and whether its commitment to unity came at the expense of trust with voters.
