The political class thinks they are above the law. But that’s slowly changing.
And a top lawyer in the nation just eviscerated this Democrat for being caught in an outrageous taxpayer fraud scheme.
Letitia James Faces Mortgage Fraud Allegations
Democrats love to point fingers, accusing others of fraud and misconduct while conveniently ignoring their own misdeeds. New York Attorney General Letitia James, a Democrat who has made a name for herself by relentlessly pursuing former President Donald Trump, now finds herself in hot water. Allegations of mortgage fraud against James, referred to the Department of Justice (DOJ) by the U.S. Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), expose the hypocrisy of a party that claims moral superiority while engaging in the very behavior it condemns.
On Thursday, the FHFA announced that it had flagged James for potential mortgage fraud, prompting a referral to the DOJ. The accusations center on James allegedly falsifying her residence status for a home in Norfolk, Virginia, to secure a lower mortgage rate and misrepresenting property details to qualify for government-backed loans. These claims were discussed on Fox News’ The Ingraham Angle, where host Laura Ingraham pointed out James’ aggressive legal tactics against Trump’s New York business. James has built a reputation for using creative legal strategies to target her political opponents, but now her own actions are under scrutiny.
George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley, a guest on the program, didn’t mince words. “This has been prosecuted in the past. Now, we have not heard her side of this, but these documents themselves are quite damning,” Turley said. “It’s hard to see how the residences listed were her principal residence.” The allegations suggest James may have manipulated residence claims to gain financial advantages, a serious charge for someone who has positioned herself as a champion of justice and accountability.
The FHFA’s letter to the DOJ, penned by Director William Pulte, details how James allegedly misrepresented her residence status and property descriptions to meet strict requirements for government assistance. This isn’t just a clerical error; it’s a deliberate act that, if proven, could undermine her credibility as a public servant. For Democrats, who often accuse Republicans of bending the rules for personal gain, James’ situation is a glaring example of their own willingness to skirt the law when it suits them.
Turley drew a sharp comparison between James’ case against Trump and her current predicament. “Now, I’ll note that one of the things that Letitia James stressed in her case against Trump is that Trump had to review documents that were filed in his name,” Turley added. “So she dismissed the argument that this was something that Trump’s people put together. She said, ‘He’s ultimately responsible.’ So they alleged that she gave a power of attorney in a couple of these instances. But according to her own standard, that’s not enough.” James’ insistence on holding Trump accountable for every detail now comes back to haunt her, as her own standards suggest she can’t dodge responsibility for the alleged fraud.
James’ pursuit of Trump began in September 2022, when she sued him for allegedly inflating the value of his New York real estate to secure loans. By February 2024, Judge Arthur Engoron ordered Trump to pay over $450 million in damages, a ruling Trump’s team quickly appealed. While judges hearing the appeal in September 2024 seemed open to reversing the decision, James refused to back down, even after Trump’s November 2024 election victory. In December 2024, she declared that her office “will not stipulate to vacate the final judgment,” doubling down on her crusade. Yet, her refusal to relent now looks like a desperate attempt to deflect from her own legal troubles.
The irony is thick. Democrats, including James, have spent years painting Trump and his associates as corrupt, all while engaging in questionable practices themselves. James’ alleged mortgage fraud is just the latest in a long line of Democratic scandals that reveal a party more concerned with power than principle. When caught, they deflect, deny, or double down, hoping the public will overlook their contradictions. But as the evidence against James mounts, it’s becoming harder for her to hide behind the façade of righteousness.
This isn’t an isolated incident. Democrats have repeatedly shown they’re not above the shady dealings they so loudly decry. The public deserves better than leaders who wield their authority to punish opponents while excusing their own ethical lapses. As James faces the consequences of her alleged actions, it’s a reminder that those who point fingers should first check their own hands for dirt.
A Pattern of Democratic Hypocrisy
Letitia James’ alleged mortgage fraud is just one thread in a tapestry of Democratic hypocrisy. Take, for instance, the case of former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, a Democrat convicted in 2011 for attempting to sell Barack Obama’s vacant Senate seat. Blagojevich’s blatant abuse of power shocked even his allies, yet he maintained his innocence, claiming he was unfairly targeted. His conviction exposed a willingness to engage in corrupt practices while preaching public service, a hallmark of the Democratic playbook.
Then there’s the 2016 scandal involving Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the former Democratic National Committee chair. Leaked emails revealed that she and other DNC officials manipulated the Democratic primary process to favor Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders. Despite the outcry, Wasserman Schultz faced no real consequences and even secured a cushy role in Clinton’s campaign. This incident laid bare the party’s willingness to rig its own processes while accusing others of undermining democracy.
More recently, in 2023, New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez, a Democrat, was indicted on federal corruption charges for allegedly accepting bribes in exchange for political favors. Gold bars, cash, and a luxury car were among the perks Menendez reportedly received, all while he positioned himself as a defender of ethical governance. These examples, alongside James’ allegations, paint a clear picture: Democrats are quick to condemn fraud and corruption in others but often turn a blind eye to their own transgressions.
