In a bold move, Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI) has launched a fresh attempt to impeach President Donald Trump, who swept into his second term with a resounding mandate from voters. Thanedar’s resolution, filed on Monday, accuses the president of a litany of offenses, including “obstruction of justice/violation of due process, usurpation of appropriations power, abuse of trade powers and international aggression, violations of the First Amendment, creation of an unlawful office, bribery and corruption, and tyranny.”
The announcement, shared via a post on X, has set off a firestorm of reactions as Trump hits the milestone of his first 100 days in office.

Fox News Senior Congressional Correspondent Chad Pergram confirmed the filing through a colleague, noting the development in a Monday X post. Thanedar’s impeachment effort comes on the heels of Trump’s historic November 2024 victory, where the 45th and 47th president clinched the Electoral College, the popular vote, and every swing state—a feat that solidified his political dominance.
Since taking office, Trump has moved swiftly to deliver on campaign promises, particularly his pledge to curb illegal immigration. Invoking the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, he has accelerated deportations, targeting alleged gang members and transferring them to facilities like an El Salvador prison. These actions have faced pushback from judges, some of whom have attempted to block his initiatives.
The immigration crackdown took a dramatic turn last week when the FBI arrested Wisconsin Judge Hannah Dugan, a left-leaning jurist accused of aiding an illegal migrant’s escape from custody. FBI Director Kash Patel defended the arrest, declaring on X, “No one is above the law.” The incident sparked outrage among Democrats, who decried the move as overreach.

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller fired back, accusing Democrats of hypocrisy. In a scathing statement, he claimed they had spent years “stripping Americans of due process to jail them for protected political activity” while “illegally spying on the Trump Campaign.”
Miller further alleged that Democrats had weaponized the FBI and intelligence agencies to target political foes and had orchestrated a “mass invasion” of the U.S. by cartels and terrorists, causing widespread harm.
“And now these same Democrats howl with rage when the invasion is returned and those who criminally harbor the invaders and feloniously obstruct their removal are held accountable under law,” he added.
Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, doubled down on the administration’s stance, issuing a stern warning to officials and judges who obstruct deportations:
“Protest all you want, but when you cross that line—I’ve said this one thousand times—when you cross that line to impediment or knowingly harboring or concealing an illegal alien migrant, you will be prosecuted, judge or not,” Homan stated.
Beyond immigration, Trump has reshaped U.S. trade policy with bold strokes. Earlier this month, he imposed tariffs on nearly every country exporting to the U.S., including a 34 percent levy on China.
While most nations quickly entered negotiations—earning a 90-day tariff postponement—China faced an escalated 145 percent tariff, coupled with the closure of a long-exploited commerce loophole.
In a recent Time magazine interview, Trump revealed that Chinese leader Xi Jinping had reached out to discuss trade talks, signaling the impact of his policies.
As Thanedar’s impeachment resolution looms, the nation watches a presidency defined by swift action and unrelenting controversy.
