The Left has a habit of not performing well during debates. But this took things to another level.
And a Democrat candidate froze up on the debate stage in a shocking moment.
In a showdown during Virginia’s sole gubernatorial debate, Democrat Abigail Spanberger faced a brutal takedown from Republican Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears over her stubborn refusal to dump attorney general hopeful Jay Jones.
Jones, caught in a storm of controversy, had spewed hateful texts wishing death on a former GOP House speaker and even his young kids. This scandal exploded right out of the gate, proving once again how Democrats cling to their extremists no matter the cost.
Earle-Sears didn’t waste a second, hijacking the first question to hammer Spanberger on her loyalty to Jones. “Abigail, when are you gonna take Jay Jones and say to him, ‘You must leave the race?’” the lieutenant governor fired off, pulling no punches. She drove the point home, exposing Jones’ twisted desire to see his political rival gunned down.
But Spanberger? Crickets. She sat there mute, dodging the glare like a guilty party in a lineup. Earle-Sears wasn’t having it, demanding, “My opponent needs to answer about Jay Jones.” The Republican powerhouse kept the pressure on, forcing the moderators to step in and grill the Democrat directly.
Moderator Deanna Allbrittin jumped in, probing Spanberger on when she first caught wind of Jones’ 2022 texts and if she still backs him as Virginia’s chief law enforcer. Spanberger tried a weak deflection: “The comments that Jay Jones made are absolutely abhorrent. I denounced them when I learned of them,” she said, tossing in a generic call for both parties to reject violent talk. But that was all smoke—no fire on the real issues.
Allbrittin called her out cold, pointing out the dodge on the endorsement. “I didn’t hear an answer there on the endorsement issue. So, I want to just make sure. Will you continue to endorse Jay Jones to be the next attorney general of Virginia? And were you aware of these text messages before they released?” the moderator pressed, refusing to let Spanberger slither away.
Instead of owning up, Spanberger flipped the script, accusing Republicans of sitting on the texts for political gain. That sparked Earle-Sears to interrupt with a sharp, “When did you know and what did you do about them?” The lieutenant governor wasn’t about to let the Democrat play victim.
Spanberger doubled down on her timeline: “I learned of these text messages the day that they came out, and I denounced them as soon as I learned of them.” She rambled on about voters now having the facts, claiming the info was hidden for shady reasons, but insisted it’s all up to the people now.
Yet when the moderator circled back to nail her on the endorsement, Spanberger evaded again. “It’s up to every person to make their own decision,” she muttered.
Allbrittin wouldn’t back down: “What you’re saying is that as of now, you still endorse Jay Jones as attorney general?” she asked, trying to corner the elusive Democrat. Spanberger’s reply? A lame repeat: “I’m saying, as of now, it’s up to every voter to make their own individual decision.”
The debate shifted briefly to Earle-Sears, who got quizzed on President Trump’s blunt words at Charlie Kirk’s funeral: “I hate my opponent and I don’t want the best for them.” The Republican admitted she wouldn’t phrase it that way, showing the kind of honesty Democrats like Spanberger could learn from.
But Earle-Sears quickly turned the tables, launching a gut-wrenching plea straight at Spanberger. “Jay Jones advocated the m*rder, Abigail, the mrder of a man, a former speaker, as well as his children who were two and five years old,” she said, hitting hard on the family angle that should resonate with any parent.
Invoking Spanberger’s own daughters, Earle-Sears ramped up the intensity: “You have little girls. What would it take? Him pulling the trigger? Is that what would do it? And then you would say he needs to get out of the race?”
Spanberger’s reaction? Stone cold. She wouldn’t even glance at her opponent, staring ahead like a robot programmed to ignore the truth. Earle-Sears kept pushing: “Abigail? You have nothing to say, Abigail? What if he said it about your three children? Is that when you would say he should get out of the race? Abigail, you’re running to be governor.”
The lieutenant governor laid it out plain: “Have some political courage.” She accused Spanberger of playing games for her own ambition, warning that real leadership means tough calls—like booting Jones from the race.
This debate moment exposes the rot in Democrat ranks—backing a guy who fantasizes about assassinating opponents and their innocent kids, all while Republicans like Earle-Sears stand tall for decency and law.
