Cuomo is desperately trying to claw back political power. And he doesn’t care who he has to tear down.

And now Andrew Cuomo punched Democrats in the mouth with a betrayal they’ll never forget.

Cuomo Slams Democrats for Abandoning Working Families

On Monday, ex-Democratic Governor of New York Andrew Cuomo took aim at his former party, accusing it of neglecting the needs of everyday workers.

Now campaigning as an independent for New York City mayor following his defeat in the June Democratic primary, Cuomo appeared on Morning Joe to lambast Democrats for letting housing costs skyrocket and losing touch with the working-class voters who once formed their core support. He claimed the party has nothing concrete to show for improving the lives of these families.

“Shame on you, Democratic Party, because you haven’t delivered. The Democratic Party, I think the the two main issues, they have become disconnected from mainstream working families who were our base, my father’s base, Bill Clinton’s base, President Obama’s base,” Cuomo said.

“We’re not at their kitchen table, number one, and number two, we don’t produce. We don’t deliver. Senator Ted Kennedy, God rest his soul, told me as a young fellow before I ever ran for anything, when people walk into the voting booth, they have to know one thing you did that changed their lives.”

“You can’t name something that the Democratic Party did that changed their lives, right? That they know inherently. The Democratic Party has to produce. The far left runs [Mamdani],” Cuomo continued.

Rent in New York City averages $4,029 monthly, positioning it among the nation’s priciest urban centers. Overall living expenses hover around $4,130 per month, with food bills ranging from $400 to $500.

Targeting Opponent’s Credentials and Ideology

Cuomo contended that his rival, Mamdani, lacks the experience needed for the mayoral role, citing his poor attendance in the state assembly and absence of prior employment.

“For mayor, 33 years old, never had a job, never managed anything. An assemblyman passed three bills, worst attendance record in the New York State Assembly. As a mayor, as an executive, as somebody who’s supposed to get things done, no, that’s going to sound the problem,” Cuomo said.

Mamdani’s platform includes proposals like capping rents, boosting the minimum wage to $30, and establishing public-operated supermarkets and transit.

He’s faced backlash over past remarks branding the NYPD as “wicked,” “corrupt,” and “racist,” but has since retracted them and pledged against cutting police funding.

In an old clip from a 2021 Young Democratic Socialists of America event, Mamdani declared that socialism’s ultimate aim involves “seizing the means of production.”

During Thursday’s debate, Cuomo accused Mamdani of not truly being a Democrat, pointing out his failure to support Kamala Harris in her vice presidential run. Mamdani didn’t refute the claim.
