This Leftist has stepped in it big time. He’s destroyed any hope of having a future in politics.
And this Democrat Governor is about to go down in flames for this major scandal.
Recall Effort Targets California Gov. Gavin Newsom Over Wildfire Response
A new recall effort against California Governor Gavin Newsom is gaining momentum as critics lash out at his handling of the Los Angeles wildfires, describing his leadership as a “series of catastrophic failures.”
Opponents of the Democratic governor have pledged to file the necessary paperwork within two weeks to initiate the recall process. If successful, the effort could force an election to decide Newsom’s political future before the end of his second term.
Newsom, alongside Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, is under intense scrutiny as the wildfires have wreaked havoc across the region. The disaster has scorched over 40,000 acres—an area nearly three times the size of Manhattan—destroyed more than 12,000 structures, and claimed at least 24 lives.
Randy Economy, a leading recall organizer, offered a scathing critique of Newsom’s leadership:
“Under the reign of Governor Newsom, living in California has become impossible for average people through years of poor policies which have increased the costs of living, increased crime, increased drug use and homelessness, increased the cost of burden [sic] on small businesses and communities, while decreasing our professional standards, education standards, the disappearance of billions of taxpayers’ dollars to failed pet programs, and our public services,” he said in a statement.
Economy specifically pointed to what he described as Newsom’s “woefully unprepared and incompetent response to the fires currently ravaging the Los Angeles area.” Speaking to Newsweek, he noted that while plans for a recall predated the fires, the crisis has accelerated the timeline.
To move forward, recall proponents must first file a notice of intent and then gather approximately 1.3 million signatures within five months, according to Newsweek.
Economy, who previously spearheaded a recall effort against Newsom in 2021, recently established an organization called Saving California. The group, comprised of professionals, working families, and community advocates, is rallying support for the governor’s removal.
Dr. Houman David Hemmati, another recall organizer, also criticized Newsom’s handling of the crisis. “Governor Gavin Newsom’s governance has been marked by a series of catastrophic failures, particularly his mismanagement of the recent wildfires, which have led to unprecedented displacement and destruction,” Hemmati said.
“Wildfires are a common and well-known issue in California. The fact that Governor Newsom has not been able to come up with any plan or prep after six years as governor and eight years as lieutenant governor shows that he is completely unprepared and lacks the compassion and will to lead California any longer,” he added.
Newsom successfully fended off a recall attempt in 2021 in a state where Democrats maintain a strong voter registration advantage. A spokesperson for the governor dismissed the latest effort, emphasizing that Newsom is focused on addressing the wildfire crisis.
Nathan Click, a spokesman for Newsom, took aim at the recall organizers, calling them a familiar group of “far-right Trump acolytes” who have launched six failed attempts to remove Newsom since he took office. He described the recall efforts as a “brazen campaign finance ‘grift’” and noted that some organizers have faced lawsuits from donors for misusing funds.
While Newsom contends with the recall effort, Mayor Bass faces her own backlash. An online petition calling for her removal has amassed nearly 130,000 signatures. Critics have lambasted Bass for being in Ghana when the fires erupted last week.
The petition reads in part, “We … urgently call for the immediate recall of [Bass] due to her gross mismanagement and failure to effectively respond to the devastating 2025 fires in and around the city.”
As the recall campaigns intensify, both Newsom and Bass face mounting challenges in navigating their respective political futures amid the wildfire crisis.
And if they survive these efforts to have them removed from office, it’s likely that they won’t be able to win any future political contests based on their poor response to this natural catastrophe in California.
