Trump doesn’t have a lot of patience for people who betray him and the GOP. That’s why this latest incident has made him so angry.
And President Trump eviscerates a Republican traitor by saying these two words.
Trump Slams Former Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan’s Party Switch
President Donald Trump didn’t hold back when he reacted to Geoff Duncan’s decision to leave the Republican Party for the Democrats. Duncan, who served as Georgia’s lieutenant governor from 2019 to 2023, announced his political shift in a Tuesday op-ed in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, following his expulsion from the Georgia GOP earlier this year for disloyalty.
Early Friday morning, Trump took to Truth Social to blast Duncan, calling him a “total loser” and waving him off with a “good riddance.” The president painted Duncan as an ineffective politician who failed to deliver results during his time in office.
“Failed former Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan, of Georgia, is a total loser. Was never able to get anything done, all he ever did was complain. We didn’t want him in the Republican Party any longer, so I’m told he became a Democrat,” Trump stated. “Good riddance Geoff. You don’t even have a chance!!!”
This wasn’t the first time Trump targeted Duncan. On August 3, 2024, Trump fired off multiple Truth Social posts, labeling Duncan a “bum” and urging the Georgia GOP to boot him out.
He also took aim at Duncan’s role as a CNN contributor, while dismissing him as a “total lightweight.”
“He is a total lightweight, and went to work at a low salary for Fake News CNN. His sole function is to knock Donald J. Trump,” Trump said.
“Georgia should throw this ‘bum’ out of the Party. He is unelectable and not respected by anyone, other than your lightweight Governor, Brian Kemp who, if it wasn’t for me, would have never been Governor….”
Duncan’s Journey to the Democratic Party
In his op-ed, Duncan explained that his decision to join the Democrats was the result of a gradual shift, sparked by his unease with the Republican Party’s trajectory.
“There’s no date on a calendar or line in the sand that points to the exact moment in time my political heart changed, but it has,” Duncan wrote. “My decision was centered around my daily struggle to love my neighbor, as a Republican.”
Duncan’s public support for President Joe Biden during the 2024 election and his later endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris after Biden stepped aside deepened the divide between him and the GOP.
Tensions with the Georgia GOP
The Republican Party in Georgia didn’t take kindly to Duncan’s actions. Party Chair Josh McKoon demanded that Duncan stop using his Republican credentials in public and media appearances.
The Georgia GOP doubled down, stating that Duncan used his title as a Republican to “attack the Republican Party,” cementing the fallout.
Duncan’s switch to the Democratic Party and Trump’s biting response reflect the deep fractures within Georgia’s political scene.
His decision to embrace the Democrats signals a new chapter, one that Trump and the Georgia GOP clearly view with contempt.
