Federal Judge Sides with Female Inmates, Bars Men from Women’s Private Spaces in Texas Prison
In a landmark victory for women’s safety and privacy, a federal judge this week issued a temporary restraining order forcing an all-female Texas prison to segregate male inmates who identify as transgender from female-only areas—the first ruling of its kind amid years of Democratic-backed policies that have allowed biological men into women’s facilities.
U.S. District Judge Sidney Fitzwater ordered the Federal Medical Center Carswell in Fort Worth to immediately bar male inmates from showers, restrooms, changing areas, and sleeping quarters used by female prisoners, ensuring women are no longer “exposed to male inmates while showering, toileting, dressing, or sleeping.”
The ruling requires the prison to rehouse men identifying as women in segregated units while still complying with earlier activist-driven court orders that blocked common-sense protections.
Years of Democrat-Supported Policies Ignored Female Victims’ Pleas
Female prisoners at FMC Carswell have begged for years to keep biological men out of their private spaces, only to be dismissed under policies pushed by left-wing activists and the previous Democratic administration. Plaintiff Rhonda Fleming, who has fought this battle for decades, described the daily ordeal in 2018:
“I am being humiliated and degraded every day so that men that identify as women can be comfortable,” Fleming said.
The complaint details disturbing behavior by several male inmates housed among women, including convicted s-x offender Zack J. Lawrence, who “routinely uses the women’s showers and has been observed frequently engaging in s-xual activity with female inmates in the showers,” and Gary Dean Boone, who has “ongoing s-xual relationships with female inmates and has been observed sharing a cell n-ked and having s-x with a woman who reportedly suffers from mental illness.”
Another male inmate, Michael D. Reed, r-ped a 75-year-old woman and pleaded guilty to kidnapping and indecent acts with a child—yet was still placed among vulnerable female prisoners.
Trump’s Prison Safety Order Blocked by Activist Judges as Assaults Continue Nationwide
President Trump moved swiftly in January with an executive order banning biological men from women’s prisons nationwide, only for Democrat-aligned activists and a D.C. federal judge to block it pending a class-action lawsuit filed on behalf of thousands of transgender inmates. Multiple men have secured individual injunctions allowing them to remain in female facilities.
The Texas ruling cleverly sidesteps those blocks by simply mandating segregation—protecting women without directly violating the activist injunctions.
Across the country, similar Democrat-permitted policies have led to chaos: in Washington State, at least eleven violent male offenders transferred into women’s prisons, where some faced accusations of s-xual assault; in Pennsylvania, women were forced to share cells with harassing biological men; and elsewhere, male inmates have even impregnated female prisoners.
Trump’s DOJ continues fighting the lawsuit on solid procedural grounds, arguing the female plaintiffs have strong claims once proper channels are followed.
“Plaintiffs have no likelihood of prevailing on the merits because they have failed to exhaust mandatory administrative remedies under the Prison Litigation Reform Act of 1995,” acting U.S. Attorney Nancy Larson said in response to the case.
Critics argue the real scandal is how far-left ideology has repeatedly prioritized the comfort of convicted male felons—many with histories of violence against women—over the basic safety and dignity of incarcerated female victims.
