Donald Trump is working to end the war. But he might need some more assistance.
And Trump revealed a potential secret weapon in the Iran war.
President Trump delivered another display of masterful deal-making on the world stage, securing commitments from Chinese leader Xi Jinping that put American interests first amid the escalating conflict with Iran.
Xi made clear during their high-stakes summit that Beijing has no intention of fueling Tehran’s war machine with weapons. This marks a significant shift that weakens the axis of adversaries lining up against the United States.
“President Xi would like to see a deal made, he would, he would like to see a deal made. And he did offer. He said, ‘If I can be of any help at all, I would like to be of help,’” Trump said to Sean Hannity.
“He [Xi] said he’s not going to give military equipment, that’s a big statement.”
“He said that today, that’s a big statement. He said that strongly but at the same time he said, you know, they buy a lot of their oil there and they’d like to keep doing that.”
China plans to continue its purchases of Iranian oil, according to what Xi told Trump. Yet the Chinese leader expressed strong desire to see the Strait of Hormuz reopened for business as usual.
Prior to the Beijing visit, Trump had voiced legitimate worries about potential Chinese support slipping toward Iran.
American forces intercepted a boat bound for the Islamic Republic carrying suspicious cargo.
But China denied any wrongdoing.
Questions also linger about possible intelligence sharing between China, Russia, and Iran aimed at American targets.
Trump’s direct engagement appears to have drawn a firmer line against lethal aid.
The president pressed further on the absurd situation in the strait.
“He didn’t like the fact that they are charging tolls [in the strait]. I don’t know if they are or not. I don’t know who would pay them,” Trump stated.
“Where would they put the money? The country is decimated, where does the money go?”
This trip marks Trump’s return to China as president, the first since his 2017 journey.
