Biden and Harris’s relationship is on the rocks. It likely will never be repaired.

And Kamala Harris exploded on Joe Biden in a move that left everyone stunned.

Tensions Rise Between Biden and Harris in the Administration’s Final Days

Vice President Kamala Harris has reportedly confided in her closest allies about her disappointment following comments made by President Biden in a recent interview. According to the Wall Street Journal, Biden’s remarks have further strained an already fragile dynamic between the two leaders as their administration nears its conclusion.

The controversy stems from an interview with USA Today earlier this month, in which Biden suggested he could have won the 2024 presidential election if given the chance to run against Donald Trump. “It’s presumptuous to say that, but I think yes, based on the polling,” the president told the outlet’s Washington bureau chief, Susan Page, on January 8. Days later, he doubled down, asserting that he “could have beaten Trump, would have beaten Trump,” while adding that Harris also “could have beaten Trump, would have beaten Trump.”

The latter comment raised eyebrows, with critics pointing out that Harris had lost to Trump in the Electoral College in the November 5 election.

The Journal report highlights frustration among Harris’s allies, who view Biden’s statements as emblematic of a broader “one-sided loyalty” in their partnership. Harris has consistently avoided publicly criticizing or distancing herself from Biden throughout their tenure, but his recent comments appear to have deepened her dissatisfaction.

“Who cares?” one former Biden official said to the New York Post when asked about the reported discord. “She is done.”

A Chill in the Air

Observers have noted a noticeable shift in interactions between Harris and the Bidens in recent weeks. At last month’s Kennedy Center Honors, the Bidens received a standing ovation as they entered, but they did not acknowledge Harris, who was seated nearby.

Further fueling speculation, First Lady Jill Biden’s behavior at former President Jimmy Carter’s state funeral last week drew attention. She appeared to avoid any interaction with Harris or her husband, Doug Emhoff.

“You didn’t see a particularly warm greeting between the first couple and the second couple,” remarked CNN anchor Jake Tapper. “But again, we are at a funeral, so one has to take that into account when trying to read the body language of the individuals there.”

Harris did join the president in the Oval Office on Wednesday night for his farewell address, sitting between her husband and Jill Biden. However, the frostiness between the two leaders has remained apparent to those close to the administration.

A Turning Point for Harris

As Biden prepares to exit the political stage, Harris is facing an uncertain future. The Journal reports that she and Emhoff are planning to split their time between California and New York once she leaves office on Monday, marking the first time in over two decades that Harris will be out of public service.

Harris is said to be weighing her next moves, including a potential gubernatorial run in California in 2026 or even a White House bid in 2028.

Meanwhile, Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 race has also reportedly created tension between Jill Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. In an interview with The Washington Post, the first lady admitted she was “disappointed” that Pelosi pushed her husband to end his campaign, despite their decades-long friendship.

As Harris prepares to step out of the national spotlight, questions remain about how the fractured relationships within the outgoing administration will influence the Democratic Party’s future.

Whether Harris can leverage her experience to reclaim political momentum or faces an uphill battle in a reshaped landscape remains to be seen, but as of now it’s looking rather unlikely.
