That’s why President Trump was grinning ear-to-ear over what CNN has been forced to admit.
Americans Respond Positively to Trump’s Handling of the Russia-Ukraine War CNN Admits
CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten reported on Monday that Americans appear to be responding positively to President Donald Trump’s approach to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine War, especially when compared to the handling of the situation by President Joe Biden. Enten’s analysis highlights that despite the recent diplomatic fallout between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Trump’s approval regarding the conflict remains relatively strong among the American public.
The rift between Trump and Zelenskyy escalated during a tense meeting in the Oval Office on Friday, where the Ukrainian president accused the U.S. of failing to engage in meaningful diplomacy. This resulted in a verbal clash between the two leaders, as well as Vice President J.D. Vance, who joined the heated exchange. The confrontation has drawn sharp criticism from both Democrats and European leaders. However, Enten pointed out that the American public seems to be giving Trump the “benefit of the doubt,” with many favoring his approach to the conflict over Biden’s.
“I think sometimes we get a little too complicated in our questions,” Enten explained. “So I think the easiest way we can kind of just ask this is, ‘do Americans like the way that Trump is handling his job in comparison to how they felt about [former President] Joe Biden?’”
Enten further elaborated on the approval ratings, stating, “You look at Joe Biden back in 2024, he was 22 points under water, holy cow. You look at Donald Trump, it’s just a different planet entirely, I mean, the gulf between these two is wider between the Gulf of America and the Gulf of Mexico depending on what side of the aisle we stand on. Trump is at +2. So look, at this particular point, Americans are giving Donald Trump the benefit of the doubt, he’s doing considerably better than Joe Biden was doing on handling the Russia-Ukraine conflict.” Enten summarized the public sentiment succinctly: “So on this simple question, Americans are saying ‘okay, Donald Trump’s doing alright on this.’”
Americans Fed Up With Ukraine-Russia War
Recent polling data further supports the idea that Americans are growing increasingly disillusioned with the war. According to a Gallup poll from December 2024, 50% of Americans now want a quick end to the war, even if it means that Russia captures Ukraine. This marks a significant rise from just 31% in August 2022. The poll also suggests a subtle shift in the American perception of Russia, with some Americans beginning to view the country in a more favorable light.
Trump has repeatedly emphasized his desire for a negotiated settlement to the conflict, claiming that talks to end the war were progressing following a call he had with Russian President Vladimir Putin in mid-February.
The diplomatic tension between Trump and Zelenskyy reached a boiling point during their meeting in the Oval Office, where the Ukrainian president criticized U.S. engagement in the conflict. Zelenskyy’s remarks set off a heated exchange, with Trump accusing him of disrespecting the American people and claiming that the U.S. had already provided more support to Ukraine than many believed was warranted.
To date, the U.S. has sent more than $65.9 billion in military aid to Ukraine since Russia’s invasion in February 2022. However, a White House official told The New York Times that all military assistance to Ukraine could potentially be canceled following the fallout from Friday’s meeting.
During the dispute, Vice President J.D. Vance stepped in, advising Zelenskyy to show gratitude for the Trump administration’s efforts to bring the war to a close. Vance also accused the Ukrainian leader of campaigning for Vice President Kamala Harris after a visit he made to her at a munitions factory in Scranton, Pennsylvania, in September.
In the aftermath of the meeting, Trump and Zelenskyy’s planned signing of a finalized mineral extraction deal was called off. The scheduled joint press conference between the two leaders was also scrapped due to the escalating tensions.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump explained his perspective on the situation, stating that Zelenskyy was not ready for peace because he viewed U.S. involvement as an advantage in negotiations with Russia. Trump added, “We had a very meaningful meeting in the White House today. Much was learned that could never be understood without conversation under such fire and pressure. It’s amazing what comes out through emotion, and I have determined that President Zelenskyy is not ready for Peace if America is involved, because he feels our involvement gives him a big advantage in negotiations. I don’t want advantage, I want PEACE. He disrespected the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office. He can come back when he is ready for Peace.”
Despite the tense meeting, Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude to Trump and the American people for the opportunity to visit the White House. He emphasized that Ukraine remains committed to achieving “just and lasting peace” and thanked the U.S. for its ongoing support.
