It’s no secret that Democrats want to reshape this country. But the lengths they’re willing to go are immense.
And now Capitol Hill went up in flames after Kamala’s incendiary plot for the U.S. Senate.
Vice President Kamala Harris, once again proving her willingness to dismantle long-standing Senate traditions, expressed her support for eliminating the 60-vote filibuster requirement to reinstate Roe v. Wade during a Wisconsin Public Radio interview on Tuesday.
In typical Harris fashion, she championed a move that would not only weaken the Senate’s ability to reach consensus but would also federalize abortion access, overriding states’ rights and local control.
The filibuster, which has been a crucial tool in maintaining balance by allowing a minority to block extreme legislation, would be gutted under Harris’s plan.
“I think we should eliminate the filibuster for Roe,” she declared on the Wisconsin Today show, showing a disregard for the importance of legislative debate and compromise.
Harris went on to push her radical agenda: “51 votes would be what we need to actually put back in law the protections for reproductive freedom and for the ability of every person and every woman to make decisions about their own body and not have their government tell them what to do.”
The irony here is glaring, as she seeks to have the federal government dictate one of the most polarizing issues in the country, all while claiming it’s about freedom from government interference.
Her comments sparked immediate backlash, especially from West Virginia independent Sen. Joe Manchin, a staunch defender of the filibuster and one of the few voices of reason left in the Democratic ranks.
“Shame on her,” Manchin remarked, hitting back at Harris’s dangerous rhetoric.
“She knows the filibuster is the Holy Grail of democracy. It’s the only thing that keeps us talking and working together.”
Manchin’s point is clear: without the filibuster, the Senate would devolve into a rubber stamp for whatever fleeting majority happens to hold power, and Harris is leading that charge.
In a revealing moment, Manchin made it clear where he stands: “That ain’t going to happen,” he said, withdrawing any potential support for Harris in a 2024 presidential bid — a well-deserved rebuke for her recklessness.
Harris, ever eager to cling to radical policy, also touted Democratic hopes of keeping control of the Senate and retaking the House, as if her divisive policies are the key to victory.
“It is well within our reach,” she optimistically declared. But for a candidate who has been pushing to end the filibuster for both Roe and extreme climate policies like the Green New Deal, it’s clear she’s willing to trample on any institution that gets in her way.
Back in 2022, Harris made similar comments about needing just two more Senate seats to codify Roe v. Wade, pass voting rights bills, and advance her progressive agenda.
With no regard for the long-term damage, she boasted, “I cannot wait to cast the deciding vote to break the filibuster on voting rights and reproductive rights.”
Her eagerness to tear apart the very fabric of Senate tradition for her own political gain is alarming, to say the least.
Even President Biden, whose cognitive clarity has come into question, has signaled that he’s “done” with Senate rules like the filibuster.
Yet, it’s Harris who seems most excited about leading the charge, declaring in 2022 that she “cannot wait” to break the filibuster.
