New House report details what really happened during Biden’s botched foreign withdrawal

Joe Biden’s failed withdrawal from Afghanistan is a topic that the Left is trying to scrub from history. But now the truth is in the open for everyone to see.

And a new House report has detailed what really happened during that failed withdrawal.

The botched withdrawal from Afghanistan in August 2021 is one of the darkest chapters in recent American history. As the House Foreign Affairs Committee reveals in its newly released report, President Joe Biden’s reckless and hasty decision to pull out U.S. troops led to disastrous consequences — consequences that could have been avoided if the administration had heeded the warnings of military leaders, allies, and even common sense.

Thirteen U.S. service members paid the ultimate price, thousands of American allies were abandoned to a brutal fate under Taliban rule, and the credibility of the United States on the world stage was severely damaged.

The House report paints a damning picture of the Biden administration’s decision-making process in the lead-up to the withdrawal. The evidence is clear: President Biden was so determined to fulfill his long-standing goal of ending America’s involvement in Afghanistan that he ignored critical advice from his top national security advisors and international allies.

The report states unequivocally that Biden’s decision to withdraw all U.S. troops was “not based on the security situation, the Doha Agreement, or the advice of his senior national security advisors or our allies,” but rather on his “unyielding opinion” that the United States should no longer be in Afghanistan.

This stubbornness led to a chaotic and ill-prepared evacuation that put American lives at risk and left a power vacuum in Afghanistan, swiftly filled by the Taliban. The Biden administration’s actions — or lack thereof — were a betrayal not only to the brave men and women in uniform who served in Afghanistan but also to the Afghan people who relied on American support to build a future free from Taliban tyranny.

One of the most shocking revelations from the House report is the extent to which the Biden administration ignored clear and consistent warnings about the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan.

Military leaders had stressed the likelihood of Kabul falling into Taliban hands much sooner than anticipated, but their concerns were dismissed. The administration delayed initiating a noncombatant evacuation operation (NEO), despite the increasing chaos on the ground.

The report notes that the Biden administration’s reluctance to call for an NEO was driven by concerns about the optics of such an operation. They feared that an evacuation would be seen as an admission of failure — yet the failure became undeniable as the situation spiraled out of control.

When Afghanistan’s Ambassador Ross Wilson finally requested an evacuation on August 15, it was already too late. The delay in ordering the evacuation was inexcusable and directly contributed to the tragic loss of life.

Perhaps the most damning aspect of the withdrawal was the Biden administration’s failure to prepare an emergency evacuation plan. This lack of foresight led to a desperate and disorganized scramble to evacuate Americans and Afghan allies as the Taliban rapidly seized control. The report concludes that the department’s inaction “condemned thousands of Afghan allies and Americans to a life under Taliban rule.”

The consequences of this failure were catastrophic. Images of Afghans clinging to departing planes, desperate to escape the impending Taliban regime, will forever be etched into the collective memory of the world. Thousands of Afghan interpreters, contractors, and other allies who had risked their lives to support U.S. forces were left behind, many of whom now face persecution or death at the hands of the Taliban.

American citizens, too, were abandoned, their fates uncertain as the administration failed to secure safe passage for them out of the country.

The report’s findings underscore a disgraceful dereliction of duty by those in the highest levels of government. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, entrusted with leading the evacuation efforts, was on vacation as Kabul fell.

This absence of leadership at such a critical moment is nothing short of scandalous. House Foreign Affairs Chair Michael McCaul (R-TX) has rightly subpoenaed Blinken to testify on his role in the disaster, demanding accountability for the lives lost and the allies abandoned.

The Biden administration’s attempt to deflect blame onto the previous administration, as seen in White House spokesperson Sharon Yang’s statement, is not only disingenuous but also a gross misrepresentation of the facts. While the Trump administration had indeed negotiated a withdrawal timeline with the Taliban, it is clear that Biden’s administration was responsible for the execution — or rather, the gross mishandling — of that withdrawal. The disastrous outcome was not an inevitability; it was the result of a series of poor decisions made by the Biden administration.

The botched withdrawal from Afghanistan has had far-reaching consequences beyond the immediate loss of life and the abandonment of allies. It has severely damaged U.S. credibility on the world stage. Allies and adversaries alike have taken note of the Biden administration’s inability to execute a coherent and effective withdrawal strategy. This debacle has emboldened America’s enemies and caused allies to question the reliability of U.S. commitments.

The House Foreign Affairs Committee’s report is a sobering reminder of the catastrophic failure that was the Biden-Harris administration’s withdrawal from Afghanistan. The decision to rush the withdrawal without proper planning or consideration of the consequences was a reckless and tragic mistake.

American lives were lost, allies were abandoned, and the reputation of the United States was tarnished — all because of an administration more concerned with optics than with the safety and security of its citizens.

The Biden-Harris administration must be held accountable for this disaster. The American people deserve answers, and they deserve leaders who will prioritize their safety and uphold the values that make this nation great.

The withdrawal from Afghanistan will forever be a stain on the legacy of this administration — a legacy of failure, incompetence, and disregard for American lives.
